mission

The mission of Sarasota Contemporary Dance is to bring cutting edge dance of the highest caliber to the community through performance, education, and collaboration.

Sarasota Contemporary Dance (SCD) is a professional dance company that has been serving communities for more than 19 years. Located in the heart of Sarasota’s historic Rosemary Square district, SCD shares its Home Studio with the public through artistic, educational, and performance programming.

For the 2025–2026 season, over 25 studio performances are planned in our state-of-the-art, 1,000+ square foot studio and performance venue. Additionally, more than 20 weekly dance classes are offered year-round, open to all ages and experience levels.

SCD remains a hub for choreographers, a training ground for dancers, and a welcoming home for anyone who seeks the joy of dance.

history
Leymis Bolaños Wilmott and Rachael Inman began working together in a Florida State University’s graduate program in 2000. The two shared a vision to collaborate, create, and celebrate life through movement expression. Bolaños Wilmott and Inman then Developed programming for the FSUdanceSARASOTA initiative, and in 2002 Bolaños Wilmott and Inman founded Fuzión Dance, the first professional contemporary dance company in Sarasota. In 2006, they formed Fuzión Dance Artists as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. After a decade of establishing its presence under the continued Artistic Direction of Leymis Bolaños Wilmott, Fuzión Dance Artists became Sarasota Contemporary Dance. Sarasota Contemporary Dance has been presented at the Alabama Ballet Center for Dance, the John F. Kennedy Center, the Dennis C. Moss Theater, the Merce Cunningham Studio Theatre, and the Ailey Citigroup Theater. The company presents a dynamic blend of works by Artistic Director Leymis Bolaños Wilmott and esteemed guest choreographers including Adele Myers, Lisa del Rosario, Alyson Dolan, Ana Maria Alvarez, Melissa Cobblah Gutierrez, Michael Foley, Vincent Hardy, Gerri Houlihan, Jennifer Archibald and Crystal Brown. Recent highlights include the collaborative performance of SCD+ The Barker Project as well as Ensemble EnSRQ and West Coast Black Theatre Troupe. Thevexpansion of “Jehanne” with composer Mark Dancigers, and a regional tour of “The Cuban Project”.

In addition to a variety of community collaborations and performances at local venues. 2025-2026 marks the company’s 20th season Mi Amor, a season full of positive momentum, devotion, and affectionately reflecting the LOVE of its Live Music Collaborations.
