Intensive A: May 31st – June 6th

GET READY to move this summer with Sarasota Contemporary Dance and guest teachers in sunny Sarasota for a week-long dance intensive, unlike any other! You have three weeks to choose from- or do all three! LIMITED to 25 PARTICIPANTS PER INTENSIVE!

Ages:Open to High School Students through Professionals (minimum age 14)

Workshops:Contemporary, Jazz, Afro-modern, and Hip-hop

Prices:

Summer Intensive Tuition:

  • $100 Non-refundable Summer registration deposit (Must be paid for each intensive you are attending)
  • +$400 for 1 intensive
  • $150 Internship Payment
  • 30% off final deposit if attending 2 intensives 
  • 50% off final deposits if attending 3 intensives

Housing Prices:

  • $100 non refundable (due before MAY 1st to secure a spot)
  • +$350 + $50 Cleaning Fee
  • Total: $500

INTERNSHIP

General Work Study Internship:
  • Age requirement – 18 & up (only 3 interns per intensive, receive half off tuition)
  • No experience necessary! Candidates will help on registration day, set up and break down each day, assist teachers with music, and help with basic tasks throughout the program.

 

Costume Internship:
Help organize costumes for ‘In The Round’ Performance. Wash all costumes after Saturday’s performance and bring them back to SCD Studio by the following Monday.
 
Internship tuition:

class description

Contemporary and Improvisational Forms

In this class, we will move. Playing with the awareness and acknowledgment of our worlds within and the worlds surrounding, we will challenge ourselves to glide between the

two. With spaciousness from the bottoms of our feet to the tops of our heads, we will release, fall, and suspend within these worlds, knowing our bodies are there to catch us.

We will use sensation, imagery, instinct, and a bit of humor within set patterns and free forms. We will play, take up space, and take care of ourselves within our ever-changing landscapes. We will be soft. We will be wild. We will be full-bodied. We will move a whole lot. This class will be contact-free, will move in and out of the floor, and will always place safety

first. Come with what you have; leave with a bit more.

SCD MODERN SAMPLER(SCD Teaching Artists): 

Sarasota Contemporary Dance is excited to launch a NEW intensive class, the SCD Modern Sampler.  Intensive participants will be able to experience and learn from 5 different Sarasota Contemporary Dance company members, all with varying backgrounds and embodied practices. Participants will experience influences from Horton, Limon, Release Technique, to Postmodern. This class is a great way for participants to immerse themselves into SCD by getting to know the company members and receiving their professional training! 

SCD Rep: 

Participants will be able to learn repertoire from Sarasota Contemporary Dance during the SCD Summer Intensive. Works originally choreographed by Artistic Director Leymis Bolanos Wilmott, restaged this summer by one of SCD Company members.

Guest Teaching Artist Bio:
Claudia-Lynn Rightmire –
Claudia holds an Honors summa cum laude BA from Roger Williams University, and creates within mediums of dance, writing, theater, and visual art. She is on faculty at Gibney Dance and has taught at schools such as Smith College, NYU Tisch School with David Dorfman, Roger Williams, and others. She is an artist with Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre, David Dorfman, and
INSPIRIT Dance. She has worked with NYC Children’s Theater, Third Rail Projects, Kinesis Project, Sarasota Contemporary, and Moving Ethos.
